Using the Data/Information/Knowledge/Wisdom Continuum.
With the healthcare system transforming, the use of technology need to be embraced for properintegration in the care of patients. In advancing nursing practices, research activity need to be intensified with the outcome implemented to improve the nursing profession. This paper ventures on the use of data, information, knowledge and wisdom to carry out researchand impact the care provision by nurses.
Research Question.
Who forms the best candidate for group therapy in the treatment of mental health conditions? This question is prompted by the fact that group therapy is one of the most effective treatment methods under the psychotherapy treatment modalities. It benefits individuals with various conditions such substance addiction, depression, anxiety, panic as well as family problems. Determination of the best candidates for group therapy enables me as a mental health provider to ensure that the team with similar cases are handled together and provided with the service when they need.
To work through the continuum of data in working in my area of concern, I would research the candidature for group therapy in mental illness. This will provide me with data on the topic with ranging from the efficiency and the conditions leading to the use of group therapy as a method of approaching mental health. It is from the narrowing down and relating information from various sources concerning the parties that are involved in the group therapy that I will be knowledgeable on the types of candidates for group therapy and when to use candidates of the same problem or candidates with mixed problems for the session. It is from this aspect of knowledgeability that I will be able to apply such approach to determine the best candidates for group therapy sessions with considerations of when to manipulate the candidature (Cook et al., 2017).
These concerns relating to my research questions are valid from the aspect that in most care centers or rehabilitation centers, the group therapy turns to be beneficial and create a relationship not only among the patients by also between the patients and their care providers. It throws the organizer of the session on whom to include and whom to lock out since, in the rehabilitation period of individuals in the care unit, the care provider would embrace the patient has their autonomy as well as to interact with each other which may not be the case in determining the candidates for group therapy.
Data bases and search words.
In order to get data and information concerning my question, I will useCINAHL & MEDLINE Simultaneous Search. (Creswell & Creswell, 2017). The key words will be ‘candidates for group therapy’, ‘identification of candidates for group therapy ‘and ‘inclusion and exclusion criteria for group therapy.’ The search will entail even the peer reviewed articles that are within the last five years. These searches will provide me with information of participants for therapy sessions then will narrow down to the best candidates that will fit my research topic.
Converting information to knowledge.
Upon receiving the message on the best candidates from the group therapy and scenario where these candidatures will change, I will then embark on developing and drawing a plan that will act as a prerequisite for joining the group session. The plan which will be based on the result of my search will be considering the time unto which the therapy sessions will be carried out, the mode of choosing topics, the number of members to be in the group during the therapy, whether to make it closed or open, frequency of conducting the therapy and the undertakings towards those not willing to participate in the therapy. I will undertake all these considerations since, in one way or the other, they lead to the influence of the membership of the therapy session (Cook et al., 2017).
Using wisdom.
After drawing a plan from the considerations, will be equipped not only in determining the candidates but also in giving a conducive environment which can make all the legible candidates be part of the therapy sessions and benefit from them to deal with their mental issues.
In my situation of determining candidates for the group therapy in treating mental ill-health, nursing informatics will be of great help to determine the management of candidates in the treatment process using group therapy. Through my search for candidature towards group therapy, it came out vividly that it can include individuals with either similar or different condition. Having this in mind, I will use the nursing informatics to categorize the therapies that will require mixed participants and those with similar symptoms. This will be of great importance in dealing with various therapy considerations such as age and topic of discussion. In this way, I would have used the knowledge acquired meaningfully.
Use of Informatics.
Indeed informatics can be used to gain wisdom. This can be attributed to the cascade leading to one being wise whereby one kind of research on a particular topic, narrow down to get the information, put to the information acquired into practice which indicates the knowledge you have got from the research process. Wisdom follows continuous research and practice that makes one be able to solve other problems that erupt from the application which indicates the meaningful application of the knowledge acquired. Apparently, this can be achieved via the use of informatics.
Nursing informaticsintegrates the nursing science, computer science as well as information science. These are done to aim at managing and communicating the continuum of data, information, knowledge and wisdom within the nursing profession. In the long haul, nursing informatics influences the gain of wisdom as it assists in decision making process by the nursing practitioners. Information structure in nursing informatics coincides with the continuum to facilitate research and nursing practice.
Summary.
The search of data from various source provides a researcher with information on the topic of interest. The information is not sufficient to make one use it hence requiring one to narrow down to the specific issues putting into consideration that there may be a lot concerning the topic of interest. The knowledge acquired is then applied to situations and solving of issues which amounts to one being wise.
