Information system an integrated component that is used in organizations to collect, store, and process data. It is used in the communication of different departments within an organization and outside the organization relating to other organizations (Mettler., 2016). The information system is important in healthcare, where it is known as the healthcare information system. It is useful in transmitting and managing activities in the health setup among different disciplines.

Various information systems in healthcare include; radiology, dental, and pharmacy, among others (Wager, Lee, & Glaser., 2017). Radiology information system in healthcare is used in the medical imagery and associated activities. It is essential in texting the radiology imaging orders and the billing data. Occasionally it is used hand in hand with the picture archiving and communication system or times the vendor-neutral archive.

The functions or the purpose of radiology information system include; patient management where the system can detect the workload of by determining the workflow of all the patients seen in the radiology departments. Also provides data to the physicians and the nurses that can be useful in making a diagnosis. Can be used even in scheduling, that is making appointments and deciding which patient should come first and when to come. It useful also in patient tracking where they can track a patient’s radiology record from and admission to when there discharged, and use the same data to determine future appointments. They also report the results that are used to generate statistical data. Finally, the radiology department provides the billing records to the finance office of the amount the patient is required to pay after receiving the services (Wager, Lee, & Glaser., 2017).

The dental information system is a dental record system used in the dentistry department. It occurs in two forms; the web-based system which bares the records of the patient’s data including, bookings and previous medical records and the client server system which is strictly used by the medical staff, and contains the doctor’s information, patient bills and the updates of the progress of the patient (Bates., 2015). It is useful in ensuring the smooth flow of service delivery from the healthcare team. Additionally, advanced booking can allow the dental surgeons to research well hence providing quality care. A specialist can be scheduled to meet specific patients according to the presenting complaint.

The pharmacy information system in healthcare ensures there are enough drugs always. They dispense and administer medications. It is involved in several functions including; screening of where it is expected to determine if the drugs available to the public are safe or not. Apart from determining the safety, they also provide a standard dose for various ages. The pharmacy information system is also crucial in inventory management where they are expected to monitor all the clinical interventions and adverse drug reactions, which they are expected to report and provide solutions. They can be involved in patient profiling in which the pharmacy can use the clinical information and the medication record to identify physiological changes related to medications such as drug allergies. It is also important in billing the patent. They determine the cost relating to the services provided and the medicines which are then sent to the financial office where the patient is expected to pay.

In conclusion, Information systems are beneficial in healthcare; they ensure the smooth running of activities in various disciplines of health care. This provides quality patient care, which is cheap and also time-saving in terms of speed. All healthcare systems in the country should adopt health information systems and even seek to improve the current.
