Servant Leadership (True Volunteerism)

Servant Leadership (True Volunteerism)

In the contemporary world, extraordinary gestures of humanity are on the rise as many leaders are continuously inspiring others by serving them instead of commanding them.  A case in point of such leaders is Jim McIngvalealso known as Mattress Mack, a prominent businessperson that has made other persons’ afflictions his business. The most recent act of his humanity is evident during the just concluded Hurricane Harvey, where he selflessly offered shelters in his Gallery Furniture Stores for persons affected with this tragedy(Segarra, 2017). In essence, this discussion seeks to delve in further and establish how McIngvale inspires leadership while building his character and integrity. Additionally, it will seek to determine how he exemplifies the moral obligation of leading others through kindness, compassion and justice.

Primarily, McIngvale’s actions signify that he simultaneously inspires leadership as well as build his character and integrity. For instance, through his gesture of extending a helping hand, McIngvale inspires a spirit of leadership among persons wishing to be of help to others even though they have no resources or authority. That is for sure becauseMcIngvaletook matters into his hands to arrest the situation by offering own resources for serving others (Cbsnews, 2017). An action of this kind is consistent with good leaders who seek to opportunities for leading others. Notwithstanding, McIngvale’sactions also build his character (selflessness, generosity and compassion to others) and integrity (good morals).

Concerning leading others through kindness, compassion and justice, McIngvale’s actions befit the exemplification of this moral obligation. That is for sure because he gives shelter to the afflicted persons in his Gallery Furniture Stores during the Hurricane Harvey at the expense of his business. Notwithstanding, he selflessly used his trucks to fetch individuals in affected areas(Calfas, 2017).Such gesturesdemonstrate his kindness and compassionate nature as well asadvocacy for justice for the less fortunate through his commitment to have all human beings as equals. Based on these illustrations, it is beyond doubt that McIngvale exemplifies the moral obligation of leading others through kindness, compassion and justice.

In closure, this discussion aimed at establishing how McIngvale inspires leadership while building his character and integrity as well as determining how he exemplifies the moral obligation of leading others through kindness, compassion and justice. Indeed, from the discussion, it is apparent that McIngvale is a true volunteer whose acts of service as a leader inspire young leaders to consider servant leadership. As such, going forward, there is a need for more leaders of this kind if servant leadership s to become more prevalent.
