Reflection: Serving as a nurse practitioner

Reflection: Serving as a nurse practitioner

Serving as a nurse practitioner, having awell-rounded knowledge of the problems encountered by the patients is crucial in delivery of healthcare. The wide-ranging nature of science demands committed efforts and partnership in professionalism from diverse interdisciplinary groups.

Through the course of 8 weeks in this unit, I have managed to carry out extensive research studies, critical thinking as well as supportive evidence sources to evaluate and avail information to all the case studies. It is worth admitting that I have encountered challenges, and it has not been easy going through the entire unit. It took the efforts of learning from every person’s input on various case studies that were presented, which depicted new ideas constructed from what I perceived it should be, to what possibilities could have been, as well as what it actually is. In addition, the idea of having one to three different diagnoses aid in adding to the existing knowledge, and at the same time obtaining some new details about evidence-based practice (EBP). This is more so in finding solutions to plentiful case studies.

Furthermore, gaining the insights of pathophysiology is the vital knowledge that assists in evaluating the grounds of the scientific evidence foundation of the theoretical models as well the EBP interventions in the scope of the problem. It is followed by the capabilities to generate an informed choice of the remarkable intervention strategy (Chamberlain College of Nursing, 2016). Fulfilling the MSN essential eight through the availability of necessary education as well as structuring that knowledge into the evidence-based study is essential in providing patients with better quality care. According to Chan (2013), education preparation process is a critical strategy used to counter the knowledge obstacles. It was further explained to optimize the contributions of EBP at the same time advocate for safety and improved quality care. Consistent efforts are needed to incorporate EBP into daily nursing practices. Therefore, the sophisticated work incorporating evidence in practice is becoming more reasonable with the progress of information technology. This is more so in achieving tasks such as mechanization of data collection process and evaluation, as well as real-time or online sharing. Moreover, it was fascinating how the class enforced the abilities of every student to play their part in implementing the use of their scientific knowledge in the course of the 8 weeks to carry out broad research. Students have assessed their content at the same time used the best supportive evidence available to incorporate and cooperated to publicize the information collected.

I believe that I have also acquired so much knowledge that is essential in my field of work for the last 8 weeks. I believe I am well equipped than before based on the scores throughout the course, which puts in me more confidence that I will be in a position to offer necessary help to the persons in need of my services (Popil, 2011). Throughout this course, I have realized the basis of various diseases and their developmental processes. I have gained an understanding of different diseases impact on distinct individuals and given cultures. In this regard, the course will sufficiently supplement my knowledge and potentials portrayed in the work field helping me structure more sound scientific care to every patient under my care. It is through the learned scientific knowledge that I will be in a position to manage situations that demand critical decisions and diagnoses. For instance, I have learned how to handle critical situations that need the conveyance of information to the patients when they deserve to know the truth about their health. Therefore, gaining the insights about this unit has granted me more knowledge on how to detail the information to my sick persons in a more reasonable manner to help the patients make viable and valuable decisions.

Program Outcome #4: Evaluate and design, implementation and outcome of strategies developed to meet healthcare needs

MSN Essentials III quality and Safety

The case study provided us with the needed knowledge on how to identify important information with the aim of gaining a more comprehensive diagnosis and differentials. The up- to- date articles provided in class expanded our understanding. It was always challenging for me to find the relevant articles in a given study, but I was able to understand that research and technology are always evolving and, therefore, it is important to find the relevant articles in a given study (Facchiaono, 2012). The knowledge gained in this class enabled me to provide an effective and efficient evidence-based diagnosis as well as the treatments.

MSN essential IV

In this study, I was able to appreciate that each differential treatment and diagnosis are based on the most recent studies. The discussion on the pathological process in molecular as well as cellular level enabled to better understand disease process. This served to reinforce the core concept in this particular essential.

MSN Essential VIII

Our future responsibility as Primary Care-FNP focuses on the treatment as well as the prevention of a different type of illness. Conducting research and case study enables one to examine in a thorough manner. Careful analysis leads to the comprehensive knowledge base, thus enabling the healthcare providers to provide the needed education to the patients. According to Facchiaono (2012), each encounter with patients is a learning opportunity, and the more a practitioner has with different types of patients, the more they can learn and acquire the needed knowledge.  The experience in this class, therefore, has provided me with the opportunity to learn and understand different types of concept enhancing my approaches towards patient care.

The nurse practitioner core competence, the scientific foundation was achieved in different ways. Having a broad knowledge concerning numerous diseases as well as understanding their cause, their clinical manifestation, how they are diagnosed as well as their treatment was very essential. The study prepared me in these aspects of disease management as follows.

  1. Critically analyze the provided data and evidence for improving advanced nursing practice: I was able to gain the needed knowledge. I was able to utilize the knowledge to analyze different pertinent positive findings as well as pertinent negative findings in different types of scenarios(Spruce, 2015). I was able to develop and adopt differential diagnosis while exploring the most current evidence with the capability of improving the care as well as the treatments provided to different types of patients. I was, therefore, able to differentiate clinical manifestation of the diseases from different types of patients as well as to provide the needed care to these patients.
  2. Integrate knowledge from humanities and sciences within the context of nursing science: Understanding of the body of humans and relating it to the disease state and the concept of epidemiology and etiology has provided the knowledge needed to provide patients with quality care. The use of diagnosis test to confirm and diagnose different type of diseases has opened the way for more advanced care to the patients with different types of diseases. The most important aspect is to be able to confirm the clinical signs and symptoms and link to a particular disease. The lab experiments, therefore, enables to confirm these signs and symptoms thus enabling the administration of appropriate medications.
  3. Translate research and other forms of knowledge to improve practice processes and outcomes. The research for information during this course has provided me with broad knowledge on many disease conditions as well as how to treat them. Translating the researched information into the needed knowledge and apply them to different types of scenarios case studies provided in class,  have prepared me to be able to provide adequate care to this kind of situations(Facchiaono, 2012).
  4. Develop new practice approaches based on the integration of research, theory and practice knowledge: The course enabled b to integrate evidence-based research and theory into practice(Spruce, 2015). This was important to enable the provision of quality care to the patients.
