Positive workplace change
Kotter’s 8 steps to change are based on the work of Kurt Lewin, who came up with the model and stressed how important it was to follow all eight steps in order for an organization’s planned change to be successful. The model, as shown by Wiki., (2019), is to create urgency, build a strong coalition, create a vision for change, share the vision, remove obstacles, create short-term wins, build on the change, and anchor the change in company culture. Starbucks is proud of how its coffeehouse chains and roastery stocks are spread all over the world and add to the global coffee culture. The management has decided to change the way reuse packaging works to improve the customer experience even more.
In a nutshell, this is what Starbucks says its goal and values are in its mission statement and vision statement. (2020)

With the market changing all the time and new pandemics popping up, the target market is quickly changing. Organizations are making changes they think are needed to adapt and stay in business. Organizations need to be open to positive organizational change if they want to keep their clients and employees. This lets them improve on a culture of change and gives their workers chances to be creative and come up with ideas that will help the organization. For this change to go smoothly, it should involve everyone who has a role in it. This paper is about a good organizational change at Starbucks that follows Kotter’s 8 steps to change.
Creating a sense of urgency: Because there is a lot of demand for environmentally friendly packaging in the food industry, all stakeholders in the food chain need to be included in the constant calls to foodservice providers. This will help them understand how important it is to look into the future of single-use paper coffee cups in Starbucks and all other places that do business in our field. Recycling used packaging should be at the top of the list when deciding what kinds of goods to sell to the public, since recycling paper cups is still hard to do. Providing wrapping that can be used more than once does help solve the problem to a greater extent. (Triantafillopoulos, & Koukoulas., 2020). To adopt this approach, all stakeholders must take action in different ways, such as changing the way they shop or how our stores work to meet sustainability goals and the policies of their own governments. One of Starbucks’ goals for 2030 is to cut waste sent to landfills by half from shops and factories. This goal is part of a larger move toward a circular economy. (Triantafillopoulos, & Koukoulas., 2020). The problem should be dealt with quickly because of how important it is.
Starbucks has decided to ask for help from the Private Sector Engagement, the World Wildlife Fund, and Conservation International. These partners have something in common: they all want to reach goals for sustainability. Develop a plan for change: As part of its long-term goal, Starbucks has set science-based goals for carbon, water, and waste (Triantafillopoulos, & Koukoulas., 2020). It has also made it easy for employees to get involved and encouraged them to use their many skills to help the company reach its goals.This helps get the vision across because it aims to reach out to all employees in the company to push for a change to reusable packaging to improve customer experiences even more. With workers as the organization’s general back up, it is possible to reach this goal. Obstacles that might come up during the process of implementation, such as governmental approaches and legal actions, should be dealt with one at a time as they come up.
Changing to products that can be used more than once has been shown to be better for the environment and by far the best way to cut down on waste. Coelho et al., 2020, found that refillable packaging materials lead to less greenhouse gas emissions. This led them to the conclusion that it is very important to support packaging designs that can be used more than once. It’s important to keep getting this message out to everyone in the organization and celebrate each milestone. For example, when all Starbucks stores start using reusable packaging, this will be a big change that can be built on by spreading it to the company’s other locations around the world. Because the company has a good track record of keeping workers, it has enough people who can adapt to the change over time and, ideally, teach it to the people who came before them.
Even though the company started the initiative a decade ago, only 2% of its products are now served in reusable packaging. A more sensible way to go about the initiative would have been to start with Starbucks stores in developed countries. For the Chinese market, as planned. As in the market, the store wants to cut its waste in half by 2030 (Starbucks announces historic shift from single-use cups and plastics to reusable packaging — Proxy preview., 2020).
