Environmental Health Assessment Alamance County
The air quality of a place whether inside or outside the house affects the respiratory function thus increasing the risk for respiratory disorders. The environment where a given community lives in is a critical determinant of the health of those individuals. The people of Alamance County can be affected by their physical environment given that some environmental conditions predispose to certain diseases conditions (Therivel & Paridario, 2013). The air quality of the community is good given that there are several initiatives that aim at improving the quality of air to prevent respiratory conditions.
Alamance County has a system for the handling and disposal of solid waste which could become hazardous when improperly handled. The physical environment is not entirely free from garbage but the county has put a considerable effort in handling the garbage. Haw River and Deep River watersheds are the main source of water for Alamance County and are nutrient sensitive. The two water sources are also associated with nutrient related algal blooms and fish skills. The Cape Fear River Basin surrounds the county and therefore acts as another great source of water for the Alamance people (Alamance County Health Department, 2015) . The water sources in the county face the challenge of non-point pollutants which make the water unsafe for human consumption.
Lake Macintosh and Stoney Creek Reservoir are also important sources of drinking water for a portion of Alamance County. The water sources are however at risk of pollution which makes the water unsafe for the people and predisposes them to water borne diseases among other conditions. Chloramines, pesticides, synthetics organic components and minerals such as lead are the main contaminants of water systems in the county (Alamance County Health Department, 2015). Alamance County has a variety of recreational services whether private or public owned such as parks and other recreational facilities.
