NURSING SHORTAGE PICO
PICO is one of the strategies employed to identify patient problems as well as in literature search. The acronym stands for P- patient, population or problem. I- possible Intervention. C- Comparison and O- for outcome. In this essay, the P-roblem is nursing shortage which is undeniable in the US to a point where the federal government has even tried to initiate programs such Nursing Residency Programs to address the issue. The Nursing Residency Program (NRP) is meant to ensure that nurses are readily available within healthcare facilities even for night shifts to ease nursing shortages. The Nursing Residency Program is the I-ntervention, where as the C-omparison in this case would be no such program exists. The O-utcome in this case is nursing availability within health facilities 24/7 to ease nursing shortage especially in the ICUs at night.
