Nurses’ Impact on Policy
Purpose: To describe ways in which nurses and/or advanced practitioners can become engaged in policy at every level of the system.
The following Course Objectives are reflected in this assignment:
CO 4: Utilize evidence-based practice research to make recommendations for healthcare reform.
CO 6: Examine the role of policy on health promotion and prevention with emphasis on trends and innovative strategies to promote individual and population health through collaboration and teamwork.
Assignment: Please read the following article:

The Quality and Safety Education for Nurses (QSEN) project is an example of nurses taking the responsibility for improving quality and safety outcomes (Cronenwett et al., 2009). Nurses prepared with the competencies of patient-centered care, teamwork and collaboration, evidence-based practice, quality improvement, safety, and informatics have the tools and resources to impact policy at the institutional, local, state, and national levels. Improving quality and safety requires the dedicated work of all nurses, and with the work of the QSEN project, nurses will be able to participate in all levels of policy making.
Submit a formal APA 6th ed. paper addressing each of the following areas. The length of the paper excluding title page and reference list can be no more than 5 pages. A minimum of three scholarly resources in addition to the text are needed to support this paper. All references should be focused only on the United States.
Every nurse, regardless of setting or specialty, has the expertise to contribute to the discussions focused on health care improvement. Discuss one example for each of the following, including how each may be related to the QSEN project:
1. To impact institutional policy: Describe ways that nurses can contribute to the discussion focused on healthcare improvement.
2. To impact local or community policy: Describe ways that nurses can contribute to the discussion focused on healthcare improvement.
3. To impact state policy: Describe ways that nurses can contribute to the discussion focused on healthcare improvement.
4. To impact national policy: Describe ways that nurses can contribute to the discussion focused on healthcare improvement.
