Objective:

To check if there exists correlation between correlation total number of cigarettes smoked daily  and Cotinine consumptions by body.

Hypothesis:

Level of significance is 0.05:

Null hypothesis, H0: There exists no correlation between total number of cigarettes smoked on daily basis and Cotinine consumptions in the body.

Alternate hypothesis H1: There exists a correlation between total number of cigarettes smoked on daily basis and Cotinine consumptions in the body

Analysis:

Using the rank excel functions, the tanks for cigarettes smoked per day and consumption of nicotine in the body are calculates.

RANK CORRELATION TABLE
Cigarettes per day (X) Nicotine (Y) Rank (x) Rank (y)
60 179 1 12
10 283 5 5
4 75.6 11 2
15 174 4 9
10 209 5 5
1 9.51 12 1
20 350 2 10
8 1.85 9 4
7 43.4 10 3
10 25.1 5 5
10 408 5 5
20 344 2 10

Correlation

  Rank (x) Rank (y)
Rank (x) 1
Rank (y) -0.92565 1

Conclusion:

The correlation of total number of cigarettes smoked on daily basis and Cotinine consumptions in the body is negative because -0.92565 is close to -1.
