How to write an Evidence-Based Practice Reflection (Essay)

The use of evidence-based practice (EBP) in healthcare is recognized as a fundamental element and key indicator of quality patient care. In my previous discussion, I explained that evidence-based practice involves integrating the best clinical evidence and available resources to provide quality care (Lehane et al., 2019). This definition has not changed ever since because I believe the use of current evidence in conjunction with clinical expertise is the best course to improve quality and safe healthcare practices.

My program helped me to develop the definition of EBP through the introduction to nursing research and synthesis of studies to come up with the best interventions to improve healthcare outcomes. In my clinical areas, I observed how the use of current evidence improved wound management and associated complications. The artifact that supports my definition of EBP is the professional accountability task completed in July. This task focused on the role of nurses in embracing the work of historical nursing figures like Florence Nightingale through the use of EBP.

Evidence-based practices can be obtained from primary or secondary research. During the program, I was able to evaluate the relevance of primary research through the use of keywords to ensure the information provided in the research best suited the topic of discussion. I was able to evaluate the believability of data by selecting peer-reviewed articles published in well-known nursing journals. Regarding the issue of quality improvement and research, I observed that QI activities are designed to provide immediate solutions to healthcare issues (Faiman, 2021). However, I observed that research is a systematic process that takes time and usually addresses issues with limited solutions.

Primary research is self-conducted research that is used to find new ways of providing care or solving healthcare problems. Secondary research involves using information from other studies to guide and support interventions in healthcare. The experience in this program helped me to understand how research is conducted, data collection, and analysis of information to inform changes in healthcare practices. This program has helped me to achieve excellence in identifying credible sources and recommending EBP changes for complex healthcare situations.
